CANFORD MAGNA CHURCHES - MISSION TO ROMANIA
Hello again!
It’s nearly three months since I last wrote but now our 2015 work program is about to get under way.
Before that though, may I say a very big thankyou to everyone who was able to come to our Quiz in April. We ourselves were on holiday but I gather you all had a really good time and for a change we had some different winners! Though from what I’ve heard, everyone was a winner and we were able to raise nearly £500 towards to cost of this year’s visits. So thank you again to all those who helped the evening run so smoothly, especially to Graham the question-master and to those who came along to support our mission.
This coming Saturday [13 June] Richard N will be flying off to Reghin with a team of seven, four from the Lantern; two from Lymington who helped with us last year; and a policeman! They will be helping build a new house for a family in the Petelea community.
There is desperate need as the husband has diabetes and several other health problems whilst his wife, a very active church member is the grandmother of a number of children living nearby in the poorest part of this community. Just two weeks ago they had pushed on a wall to see if it would still hold and the whole structure collapsed! When we were there in March we had been in this area, near to the vandalized community centre, where we’d seen some of the very worst living conditions in Romania. Then, we could only pray for His presence there – that through Phoneo the people would have peace and hope. Now, we’re able to help!
Over the past two months we’ve been very active in developing a brand new web site. Please do have a look on www.missiontoromania.org.uk and let us know what you think. Its purpose is to spread information about our activities more widely but there is no intention to separate ourselves from the Canford Magna churches to whom we owe so very much but we would hope this new initiative will promote CMC as well as ourselves. We also hope to be able raise more money and there are three means of doing so – by cheque, made payable to CMPCC [Romania]; by online bank transfer; and via PayPal. Please do try either of them!!
If you would like to know more about Phoneo and their current activities, have a look at their very interesting Spring newsletter. There is a copy in each of our three churches and it can also be found on our new web-site on the newsletters page.
Next month we are hoping to have a family fun day with live music but right now it’s in doubt as we need many more helpers. If any of you would be able to lend a hand on 18 July please do get in touch.
Kirsty, one of those travelling with Richard’s team next week and who you may have seen on the film made last September in Rapa, is quite literally jumping out to help raise some money. She is doing a sky-dive at Salisbury on Saturday 1 August and if you would like to sponsor her you can do so via PayPal on our web-site or there will also sponsorship forms in our churches. Please ask Walter Meyer at St Barnabas [01202 887187] or myself at the Lantern for more information.
Later in August [15th-22nd] we have eight [mainly] young ladies going to Little John’s House to help with their Summer School. It looks as if this year they’ll be running the week’s events on their own so do please pray for them and if you would like to donate any materials do please speak to Angie Meyer [01202 887187] or Teresa White [01202 884540] to find out more.
Now we’re starting to think about the two teams who will be going to Reghin in September/October to work with Phoneo. If you, or anyone you know, is interested in taking part in the exciting start of their new Selah school project do please contact Walter or myself ASAP.
