Dear Friends
CANFORD MAGNA CHURCHES - MISSION TO ROMANIA
It’s just over two months since I last wrote but I trust many of you are keeping up to date via our web-
site – www.missiontoromania.org.uk
It was way back on 4 October that Walter and his team arrived back safely from our last building trip to Reghin this year. They spent the whole week putting up shuttering around the first floor level of the so far completed Selah school building. This has subsequently been filled with concrete and the first floor is now in place giving some protection to the building throughout the winter months. The more complicated work of adding the first floor walls and the roof will be starting as soon the weather allows – probably towards the end of next April.
In spite of a bad start when their outward flight was delayed 5¼ hours and they arrived at 6am, the three of them then had a really good time together and completed a difficult job which required a lot of patience and hard work – very well done and thank you Walter, Mike, Richard and Nigel. NB. We’re still is discussion with Wizzair about compensation!
Yes, it’s been a very successful year during which we’ve strengthened our partnership with both Phoneo and Little Johns’ House but with the ever-increasing costs of getting folks out to Romania money has been tight. Those who volunteer have been paying £350 each [£250 for under 18s] but the actual inclusive costs have averaged £375 to Reghin and £513 to Sibiu [LJH]. However, God has provided and we’re so very grateful to Him and all those who have given so generously this year – either by one-off donation or by standing order.
Another boost to our finances came with the musical afternoon on 8 November and the quiz at St B’s on 14 November. Both of these events were very well supported and so thank you to all of those came along and we trust you had an enjoyable time – there’ve been no complaints anyway!
Last Sunday [29 November] we were very privileged to welcome Peter Vos to the morning service at St Barnabas during a private visit to the area. Peter, with his wife, works with Phoneo and heads up the Adapost project in Reghin, which opens up every afternoon to welcome the homeless and the lonely for them to enjoy fellowship and a meal together. He gave a very impressive testimony and spoke of his work, in good English, which was greatly appreciated by the congregation. He in turn, was very grateful for the generous love gift he received and for those who accommodated him and transported him around during his short stay.
In January, Ronald and Pauline Wolthuis, the Phoneo leaders and pastors of Iosua church in Reghin, are visiting Lymington for a family wedding. Whilst it’s still at the planning stage, we very much hope they’ll be visiting our churches on Sunday 17 January and that Ronald can give a short address. Watch this space!
Thank you all again for your support, especially your prayers and wishing you a very Joyous Christmas and a Happy New Year.
With every blessing
